Panavision DXL Millennium Camera at the Red Digital Studios Hollywood

June 12, 2016

Alexander recently attended the RED Mixer, where he learned about how the Panavision DXL Millennium and all the new features of this powerful 8K cinema camera. This camera is Panavision's official entry into the high end large format cinema camera rigs. Unlike most of the cinema cameras out there this one was developed by Light Iron, Red, and Panavision. Light Iron took care of the color portion of the camera, Red developed the sensor tech to create what may be the most complete system ever made, and lastly Panavision focused on the optics. The team decided to marry the lenses to the camera and the camera to the workflow. The camera itself shoots 8K .r3d RAW, which is fully supportive by Red's Workflow. Not to mention this camera is even capable of shooting 4K proxy files in ProRes and DNx at the same time. The likelihood of getting your hands on one of these cameras if your a fledging filmmaker is pretty slim especially with only 3 cameras hand built so far. We where told that the camera itself should be hitting the rental stores sometime in the first quarter of 2017.
